For your cat to feel happy and secure, they need to know they are loved by you. You can do this by showing your affection.

"Cats are much more attention-needy than most people think, and providing the right levels of attention is vitally important for their well-being. They can quickly become bored and depressed if they are ignored.

If it's lacking some cats can develop 'negative attention syndrome' where they misbehave just to get their owners to notice them. If the only time the owner talks to their pet is when they scratch the sofa or strolls down the kitchen counter, then you can guess that they will perform these feats when the owner is near, but not acknowledging them! (In this respect cats and small children do have a lot in common!)

When you get home from work, it's a good idea to take the first ten minutes to play with your cat. Forget about checking the answering machine, checking your emails or making dinner for awhile.

Your day may have been hectic and stressful, but your pet may have had no choice but to spend many long hours in a quiet house without any stimulation. You are, without a doubt, the most exciting part of their day!

By talking to them, stroking them and playing with them you will both be happier and healthier.
