James is creating a new garden space that will pay homage to Bob and be a new exciting space for his cats.
This month I thought I would give you a little update on my pond project. To bring you up to date, in my front yard I have been constructing a large pond with a Japanese Zen themed garden which will consist of a miniature mountain waterfall, bonsai trees, and a little wooden Chinese style bridge going over to a little island. On the island, there will be a little Edo period style temple and next to it will be a miniature Bob statue that was made by the artist Tanya Russell.
James’ gang are appearing online!
It’s all being made with the aid of giving my four cats and my strange cat with bad breath, who is really a Shih Tzu puppy, a chance to enjoy the outdoors like we all do. It’s all coming along quite nicely believe it or not! I have got two mates who have been assisting me with digging the hole and sourcing building supplies so it hasn’t cost a single penny in actual building materials. We have been lucky enough to have been given the bags of cement needed and even the sand was sourced from sites who were kind enough to let us take the leftover supplies. To get to where we are now in the last few days is an incredible achievement considering it was just a half dug out hole in the ground just last week.
Now we are preparing the concrete pour for the outer rim and we are about to lay down the plastic sheet at the bottom of the pond. However, there has been the suggestion that we should put tiles on the bottom for easier cleaning but I don’t know if cleaning it will be a major priority more than once a year as I’m pretty sure Koi carp will clean it for us, but I guess I’ll have to check online to be sure.
I’ve also decided that I’m going to make all the fences in my yard cat proof so that I don’t have to use just the catio anymore in order to keep my little fur babies safe. I have been running a live feed on Facebook and YouTube simultaneously almost 24/7 on the front yard as it’s being transformed and when possible, watching the cats around the house and catio when they’ve been playing, sleeping, or eating. I think that this might interest a lot of people to see how my little fluff balls enjoy and play outside. I might be getting sponsorship if somebody approaches me with the idea of a product placement or something along that line, but at the end of the day no matter what happens in this little garden and pond, I dedicate it to the memory of my amazing little boy.
The pond is a work in progress.
Remembrance event
I would like to let you know that on June 14 we will be holding a remembrance day at the Islington Memorial Green from 10am until possibly the next day, depending on how it goes. I would be honoured to have you join myself, Monika, and my crew as we pay tribute to the most amazing cat the world has ever known: Street Cat Bob. The one who gave me a second chance, the one who brightened my day, the one who taught us all a better way.
Namaste.
